The Bugdroid meets the Dragon

Bugdroid Dragon

If you've yet to watch anything form the Authors@Google series, you're very much missing out. And a recent guest was George R.R. Martin, who penned "A Game of Thrones," the first book of the "A Song of Fire and Ice" series. Perhaps you've heard of it.

As if an hour-long sitdown with Martin isn't cool enough, check out the shirt the Googlers presented him with. It's an Android Dragon T-shirt. How awesome is that? You can get your own at the link below. But head on past the break and watch the interview, too. It's well worth it.

Gargoyle Router ? A Not So Ugly Solution to Bandwidth Monitoring and Quotas ? Mini Review

GARGOYLE- [gahr-goil] NOUN – a grotesquely carved figure of a human or animal Gargoyle Router  is an alternative firmware for a number of different routers that allows you to monitor bandwidth usage by user  and set and enforce bandwidth quotas on particular users. Let me preface this review with a warning. I’m an alternate firmware junkie. Any [...]

Skimming Jonathan?s Card For Fun And Philanthrophy

sbux-cardIf you've been reading the internet regularly this week, you're probably familiar with Jonathan's card, a "social payment experiment" amounting to a public Starbucks gift card. You might have bought a coffee with it. You might have contributed to it. You might have suspected it of being a Starbucks viral (it isn't). What you probably haven't done is set up a script to skim money off the card in order to use it for your own nefarious purposes. And by "nefarious purposes," I mean feeding starving children in Africa. Here comes the ethics!

Stubby iPad Stylus Lives In Dock-Connector Port

Imagine a stylus barely longer than the first knuckle of your thumb. A stylus as tricky to grip and use as the worn-down stubby pencils you were too cheap (or too poor) to replace back in school. Now imagine that, instead of being comfortably cylindrical, these styluses instead are a sharp-edged lozenge shape, complete with [...]

Kindle Cloud Reader Rains on Apple's In-App Fee Parade

Amazon unveiled a new HTML5 Kindle Web app on Wednesday. Kindle Cloud Reader, which is already up and running, provides access to books offline and online via a Web browser with no download or installation needed. Without leaving the app, customers can start shopping in the Kindle store, giving Amazon a way to circumvent Apple's stiff commission policy for in-app purchases.

V-Moda remixes headphone lineup with Crossfade M-80 supra-aurals, yours for $230

V-Moda's been in a vampire swing recently, sinking its design teeth into some True Blood branded headphones. It's finally seen the light though -- one of its existing on-ear headphones, the V-80, has now officially been re-released as the Crossfade M-80. The metal-clad M-80 looks nearly identical to the company's veteran LP over-ear headphones, but this noise-isolating set is actually 53-percent smaller using 40mm dual-diaphragm drivers (down from 50mm) equalized to 31 points for more versatility across musical genres. There's memory foam padding on the earcups with an ultra-flexible headband wrapped in suede to keep things comfy, and vents on the swappable faceplates for a wider soundstage. Two kevlar-wrapped cables with a microphone and different in-line controls are included to support most smartphones. When it's finally time to take them off an included hardshell case will keep 'em safe -- though V-Moda claims they can survive over 70 six-foot drops onto concrete. Hot stuff, and thankfully above the collar. The M-80s are available now for $230 from V-Moda -- PR with more details after the break.

Why Did Apple Obliterate a Galaxy From the Lion Wallpaper? [Os X Lion]

Now there are two reasons to change Apple's generic OS X 10.7 wallpaper to a custom one: it's a fake. A professor of physics spotted Apple's source, which was astrophotographer Robert Gendler's image of the Andromeda Galaxy. More »
