ZTE squeezes 7-inch V66 tablet with Verizon LTE through the FCC's halls

We just learned that ZTE has its eyes set on bringing LTE smartphones to the US market next year, but where does the Chinese company stand on tablets? The company announced at this spring's CTIA that a 10-inch slate with the high-speed connectivity was in the works and would land sometime in the second half of 2011. Despite unveiling tablets for non-US markets such as the Froyo-packed Light Tab 2 and Tegra 3-powered T98, the manufacturer's been awfully quiet about this March's announcement. That all changed today, however, as this 7-inch LTE tablet waltzed through the FCC approval process. The V66, as it's currently known, not only sports LTE band 13 -- Verizon's flavor of "4G" -- but it even shows Big Red's LTE logo on the back. ZTE actually outed the V66 at a Beijing tech expo in September, proclaiming that it would come with a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, Android 3.2, a 1,280 x 800 display, 1GB of RAM and a 4,000mAh battery. Of course, FCC approval doesn't guarantee availability, and we're thinking that the chances of arriving before the end of the year are pretty slim. Check out the extra pic after the break.

Evoluce Win&I brings Kinect gesture controls to Windows 7

evoluce win&i windows 7 gesture control kinect
We've been looking at some pretty cool Kinect and Windows interactions for a while now, but we were hoping that the release of an official SDK would lead to even more coolness. Evoluce has stepped up, and is now offering Win&I -- a full-featured gesture control system for Windows 7.

The company claims that a range of up to four meters is supported, which should be perfect for just about any home theater setting. In the video embedded after the break, you can see an Evoluce demonstrator flip through a photo album, pan through a map, rearrange application windows, browse the Web, and control media playback. Two versions of Win&I are offered -- the home version goes for about 20 Euros, the business version for 40.

Anyone else having fun pretending his stance is a little "Iron Man"? We're tempted to put a repulsor on that hand.

Intel, Micron unveil first 128-gigabit flash chip, provide double the data density

Realign the data and the previous 32 and 64 gigabit roadblocks to flash storage disappear. Today, Intel and Micron announced the first 128 gigabit NAND flash chip. The chip, which was created through the companies' joint IM Flash Technologies venture, is smaller than a fingertip, created through a 20 nanometer manufacturing process and is capable of 333 megatransfers per second with the option of stacking as many as eight chips on top of each other. What makes the new NAND unique is its planar structure that allows individual memory cells to scale much smaller than before. When combined with a Hi-K/metal gate combo to keep the power leaks to a minimum, presto, you've got flash memory denser than your mother-in-law's fruitcake. Mass production of the 128Gb chips isn't due until the first half of 2012, but you can get a more in-depth intro to the future of flash right now in the PR below.
