Could this be the Motorola Xoom 2?

Motorola Xoom 2 / MZ617

A couple of days ago we saw what appeared to be a Motorola 7-inch tablet in the wild and that may very well be the case but some more new images have now popped up of the purported Motorola Xoom 2 aka MZ617.

According to the information, this device will be the same weight as the original Motorola Xoom (Really Motorola?) and looks to have a 10.1-inch screen. Other notable features include HDMI out, a microUSB port, SIM slot, front and rear cameras with the rear camera getting an HD stamp beside it.

Oddly missing however is any noticeable SD Card slot along with any specific carrier branding. Styling wise, we're seeing the same angled corners as in the previously leaked Motorola tablet and of course just like those found on the Motorola Photon. What do you all think? Is this MZ617 the same as what was previously leaked only in a different color or does Motorola have two new tablets in the works here? Backside image can be found past the break.

KISSmetrics Helps You Hone In On Stats That Actually Matter With Cohort Reports

www.kissmetricsKissmetrics, an analytics startup that helps you keep tabs on how your users are using your website, is adding a new tool to its suite of products today: Cohort Analysis. Cohorts, for those that aren't familiar with them, are groups of users who sign up during a given time period (say, everyone who signed up between January 1 and 7, 2011). And analyzing them can offer some valuable insight into how people are using (or have stopped using) your service. Kissmetrics cofounder Neil Patel explains that the vanity metrics we often see being discussed in the press, like total user count, can be misleading. For example, your site might have growing overall usage each month, but that growth may be fueled entirely by a rise in new signups ? who could mask the fact that your older users are fading away.

Magnetic Cello almost makes it cool to play the cello (video)

Say hello to the Magnetic Cello, the perfect companion to your magnetic drum kit. Crafted by college student David Levi (AKA "Magnetovore"), the instrument vaguely represents a traditional cello in structure, but the similarities pretty much end right there. To play it, for example, musicians use not a horsehair bow, but a magnetic rod that produces a voltage within an attached coil (the "bridge," in this case). Its "strings," meanwhile, consist of resistive ribbons connected to a voltage-controlled oscillator, allowing users to manipulate volume with the magnet-bow. The result sounds surprisingly cello-like, though Levi says he's still tinkering with its tone and playability. Waltz past the break to see the beast in action for yourself, or find more details in Levi's provisional patent application at the link below.

HTC Vigor media files, live wallpaper and boot animation leak out

Vigor live wallpaper

The wallpapers, ringtones, boot animation and the new Beats live wallpaper from the HTC Vigor have popped up, and are available for download.  No source is given, but we're assuming they are from the Vigor RUU that's been mentioned (but not released) by a few HTC Sensation developers.  It appears that most of the media is the typical HTC Sense fare, but there are two new Vigor specific wallpapers and the boot animation, and a, let's call it busy, live wallpaper based on the Beats static wallpaper.  The folks at Android Police have them packaged up and ready to roll, hit the source link for the downloads.

Growing Up Geek: Zachary Lutz

Welcome to Growing Up Geek, an ongoing feature where we take a look back at our youth and tell stories of growing up to be the nerds that we are. Today, we have our very own Contributing Mobile Editor, Zachary Lutz.

Perhaps it requires a special breed to proudly wear the label of "geek." No, I'm not talking about circus performers that bite heads off chickens (check the original meaning of the word), but about people like you and me, the folks who pursue their interests to a fantastic degree. It doesn't matter whether your passion is knitting, fishing or kayaking; if you're a curious individual who's always thirsting to learn more, there's a good chance we'll get along. For me, my pigeonhole just so happens to be computers -- and, more recently, mobile technology. Sure, you could blame it on way too many hours in front of the screen, but as a certain self-empowered pop star might say, I'd like to think I was born this way.
